Britt Smith, for ANMF (Vic Branch) council

Brittany (Britt) Smith

FOR BRANCH COUNCILLOR

She/Her

I’m an enrolled nurse working at St Vincent’s Private Hospital. I became a Job Rep in 2024 during our EBA negotiations.

I became a nurse in 2020 because I spent some time caring for a loved family member before they passed away. The nurses caring for my loved one in hospital inspired me and I wanted others to have the same experience we had received.

Prior to becoming a nurse, I did my Certificate III in Health Services Assistance and worked agency in aged care facilities in 2019 while finishing my Diploma of Nursing. I am now studying my Bachelor of Nursing while working on a busy neuroscience ward.

I joined ANMF because I knew they would have my back. I became a delegate because I wanted to achieve better wages and staffing levels in the 2024 St Vincent’s Private EBA. We took 104 days of industrial action, which is unprecedented for private hospital members. We paved the way for other private hospital members as their EBAs expire. Our campaign showed me that when members stand strong together, we can achieve change.

I care about growing our union because it will strengthen future campaigns to improve private sector staffing levels and patient safety.

Every member matters. Patients in private hospitals expect the same level of care as those in the public hospitals. Private sector nurses and midwives deserve equal respect, remuneration and conditions. If elected, I will fight for parity. That’s why I’m asking for you to support the Maddy Harradence Team.
