Mel Carron, for ANMF (Vic Branch) Council Executive

Mel Carron

FOR BRANCH COUNCIL EXECUTIVE

They/Them

I am an enrolled nurse working in neurosciences at Austin Health. Whilst I fell into nursing, becoming an enrolled nurse in 1984, I quickly found a home in neurology and a passion I have never lost.

Unfortunately, as a young nurse I experienced significant bullying to the point that my job was threatened. I belonged to another union back then and I turned to them for support and was told I was on my own. They didn’t have my back and I certainly felt like I didn’t matter.

I joined ANMF because I wanted a union that would have my back and where, as a member, I did matter. I became a Job Rep in 2005 because I cared about my colleagues and collective solidarity. I’ve seen the strength of the ANMF when members who are passionate about their profession and the community stand together with a union where we all matter.

It has been my honour to be a Branch Councillor since 2017, a member of the Branch Executive since 2019 and co-convenor of the ANMF LGBTIQA+ Reference Group since 2024.

Every member matters. I am an active campaigner during EBAs, a longstanding advocate for diversity and inclusion, and a proactive mentor to graduate nurses and students on the ward. If re-elected, I will bring my activism, passion and commitment to the team and that’s why I am asking you to vote for the Maddy Harradence Team.
