Melinda Connan
FOR BRANCH COUNCILLOR
She/Her
I’m a Clinical Nurse Specialist working in palliative care at Monash Health. I’ve been a Job Rep since 2011 and a Branch Councillor for the last five years.
In 1989 I became a nurse because I was inspired by the beautiful nurses who cared for my father, and I came from a nursing family.
I joined ANMF because I was inspired by mum’s participation in the 1986 nurses’ strike and witnessed the impact of the collective power of nurses and midwives.
I became a delegate in 2011 to support the 2011-12 EBA campaign to save ratios. It was a difficult six-month campaign, requiring community actions and periods of industrial action including rolling walkouts twice a day.
I care about growing our union because we need to keep building on ANMF’s strong legacy of standing up for nurses, midwives and carers wherever they work.
Having represented colleagues in general medical areas and in palliative care during major workplace change I have gained extensive experience in standing up for members, professionally and industrially. I especially care about members’ health and safety, having sustained a serious work injury several years ago, and will always advocate for safer workplaces.
Every Member Matters. We need continued strong leadership that understands the past and knows what we need for the future. That’s why I’m asking for you to vote for the Maddy Harradence Team.
